The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County, Parks and Recreation, Aquatics and Athletic Facilities Division is seeking an Ice Rink Technician for the Tucker Road Ice Rink. Candidates will oversee ongoing maintenance of the ice surface and ice related equipment and systems. The Ice Technician is responsible for delivering a high quality, well maintained facility, focusing on ice quality. Leads the physical operation of the Ice Plant and has the working knowledge of all the facilities operations.

The schedule will be days, evenings and weekends. The salary range will be $16.00-$26.00 per hour dependent on experience, qualifications, and certifications

Examples of Important Duties

  • Assist in the oversight of the routine preventative maintenance of machines and equipment while keeping schedules and records of Ice plant, HVAC, cooling towers, electrical, lighting, maintenance of the ice, Zamboni's and compressors;
  • Able to network and form strong and lasting relationships within the facility, community, and industry;
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise ice related operational activities;
  • Working conditions: work is performed at a recreational ice facility and may be both indoors and outdoors. Some work may be done in an office environment using standard office equipment;
  • Physical requirements must be able to stand for long periods of time. This position can involve sitting, standing, walking, running, stooping, lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing, and pulling;
  • Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of directives with guidance from the Facility Management team;
  • Inform the Facility Management team of any needed repairs and maintenance of the facility;
  • Anticipate problems and appropriate solutions; investigates, analyzes and reports facility issues and complaints;
  • Assure facility cleanliness & readiness for daily operations and for any special events;
  • Attends appropriate planning and organizational meetings to support the management of the facility;

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum 5 years' experience in the operations and maintenance an ice rink
  • Ability to obtain a Certified Ice Technician (CIT) certification;
  • Ability to obtain an Ice Maintenance and Equipment Operation (IMEO) certification;
  • Ability to obtain a Basic Arena Refrigeration (BAR) certification;
  • Ability to obtain Ice Making and Painting Technologies (IMPT) certification;

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
