The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County, Parks and Recreation, Aquatics and Athletic Facilities Division is seeking Manager on Duty positions for the Tucker Road Ice Rink located at 1770 Tucker Road in Fort Washington and the Herbert Wells Ice Rick located at 5211 Campus Drive in College Park.

Candidates will be responsible for the training and operation of the front desk and café staff.

The schedule will be days, evenings and weekends.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Provide a wide variety of technical support to Managers. Create, review, and submit computer documents and paperwork for approval and processing;
  • Assist in the monitoring of facility staff including Customer Service Representatives, Zamboni Drivers, Custodians and Café Attendants;
  • Physically monitor staff and activities in each venue ensuring all facility safety and operations rules and regulations are being followed. Monitor the work area/facility with a conscientious effort to promote the efficient use of supplies and materials;
  • Manager on Duty must consistently display a positive attitude and remain knowledgeable of all facility activities and procedures; . Greet customers, answer phone calls in a timely manner and transfer all calls to the appropriate staff;
  • Communicate with managers of any concerns and/or needs of the office and its equipment;
  • Supervise and provide assistance to designated personnel. Counsel staff on ways to improve performance.
  • Open and/or close the facility as required and completing all security procedures;
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively. This will include the ability to complete daily reports.
  • Effectively resolve any/all customer service issues in a timely manner consistent with M-NCPPC policy.
  • Recommend disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Ideal candidates must be able to quickly and professionally diffuse escalating situations and safely bring satisfactory resolution.

Minimum Qualifications

  • College degree in appropriate field is desirable, and limited supervision and management experience is necessary for jobs involved in assisting in the management and supervision of a facility or supervising a small program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equal to entry-level skills and abilities in providing assistance to career staff in supervising and managing a program or facility or candidates will possess a High School diploma with two years of progressive customer service experience and cash handling experience. College experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Prince George's County Parks and Recreation facilities and facility software (RecTrac), schedules, programs, fees and policies preferred.
  • Previous leadership, management and/or supervisory experience preferred.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
