PURPOSE:

The Strategy & Planning Consultant acts as an internal consultant to senior leadership across the organization, providing strategic insights, thought-leadership and decision-support towards addressing our business's most pressing challenges. This position will interact frequently with and support senior and executive leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategy Consulting - Conduct consulting engagements for internal business clients in support of our Corporate mission, vision and strategy. Independently scope work and develop work plans. As appropriate to the project, conduct targeted research, collect and analyze data, apply analytical and critical thinking skills to distill insights and key findings, craft compelling storyboards to articulate findings and recommendations, and facilitate readouts and working sessions. Depending on the project, work may be individual or part of a team.

Trusted advisor to divisions: Advisory - Serve as the Corporate Strategy liaison to an assigned division(s). Develop a solid understanding of assigned division(s)'s core functions, objectives, and internal and external context. Build strong relationships with key divisional stakeholders (i.e., senior, mid-Level and peer) and earn their trust to become a thought partner and "challenger". Participate in and contribute strategic insights at divisional meetings, one-on-ones and other divisional forums, as appropriate. Identify potential "strategy consulting" engagements to support assigned division(s). Planning - Partner with assigned division(s) on annual operating plans and other longer-range planning documents, if appropriate. Apply an understanding of internal context and external market environment to input to and critically evaluate emerging plans. Throughout, serve as a steward and champion of CareFirst mission, vision, 3-year corporate and 1-year corporate operating plans.

Executive Leadership Team (ELT) & Board support - Support, as needed, ad hoc and ongoing Corporate Strategy activities for Executive Leadership Team (ELT) & Board. Activities may include: periodic creation and / or refresh of points of view on strategic topics; environmental scan creation / refresh; scenario planning exercises; offsite facilitation, among others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in business administration, economics or other analytical field.

Experience: 8 years of experience in strategic planning with 3 to 5 years strategy consulting, internal consulting or finance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree, MBA, MPH, MHA
  • 2+ years experience with top tier strategy consulting firm
  • Healthcare industry experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Experience in a high performing consulting, strategic planning, or finance environment, demanding a sophisticated approach to understanding strategic needs, financial/industry models, competitive trends and business impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility with executives and senior management.
  • Proven experience in leading meetings comprised of multi-disciplinary teams of management and associates at all levels to drive towards consensus and action.
  • Strategic agility, structured thinking, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to organically offer perspectives and insights.
