The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George's County, has immediate openings for Event Parkers at the following facility: Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex (SPORTSPLEX) - Landover.

Event Parkers - ($20.00 - $23.00 per hour) depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Work schedule will be determined by event rental, facility scheduling and program offering needs. Availability to work scheduled shifts including but not limited to nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Qualified candidates will work with a diverse type of rental event clientele including seniors, youth, teens, and adult populations.
  • Participate in various events/programs such as athletics, job fairs, expos, and community-based programs.
Candidate must be able to work in all types of weather, such as: rain, snow, heat and cold temperatures, primary work location is outside. Also, candidate must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Enforces all rules and regulations as they relate to program and event rental safety outside.
  • Completes daily duties, including safety checks and oversight of parking and or event/program areas.
Other Duties:
  • Directs and monitor general public upon arrival along with providing general information pertaining to the complex and scheduled programs/events as needed.
  • Attends meetings, and all other required trainings.
  • Secures parking areas to include locking gates and setting up barricades, ability to lift 10 pounds.
  • Performs other related work duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and work well with the public and other staff.
  • Communicates instructions in a professional and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to establish a positive rapport by using tact and discretion with participants, and attendees.
  • Must display a high degree of emotional maturity while keeping difficult situations in proper perspective.
  • Deals effectively with the public.
  • Must be able to process information quickly and accurately.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age,
  • Have high school diploma or GED; some college or trade, education/technical training, and or related experience within one of the outlined technical disciplines required.

  • Employment is based on successful completion of the required interview and hiring process.
  • Must commit to working for the Department of Parks and Recreation for a one (1) year time frame.

Supplemental Information

These positions are Seasonal/part-time and do not include a benefit package.

Must successfully pass a complete background investigation prior to hire.

The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
