Your Role: Providing legal advice, counsel, and representation for insureds and/or CSAA IG before courts or arbitration panels and advises company employees in their handling of claim matters. Preparing legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs, etc. As legal counsel you will appear and advocate on behalf of CSAA IG and its member insureds.

Your work:
  • Applies independent analysis and judgment to prepare legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs, etc. with close coordination and input from claims specialists.
  • Appears and advocates on behalf of CSAA IG and its member insureds.
  • Conducts all phases of personal injury litigation including jury trials, motions, and arbitration hearings.
  • Works on a variety of moderately complex assigned legal projects including matters not in litigation.
  • May provide coaching and mentoring to Attorney I and may serve as a SME for CSAA and the Claims organization.
  • Identifies issues with major implications, high liability exposure, special circumstances and/or departure from guidelines. Refers to higher level staff for review and possible assignment of additional resources.
  • Monitors and analyzes existing and emerging laws and regulations affecting insurance and tort litigation.

Required Experience, Education and Skills
  • Advanced degree in related area that requires law degree and passing of bar exam
  • Certification(s) and/or licensure(s) in functional area and Licensed in California
  • 8+ years of experience in insurance defense practice with some courtroom and first or second chair trial experience
  • Skilled in personal injury litigation including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, personal injury damages and causation and the tri-partite relationship
  • Knowledge of general liability insurance coverage and CSAA IG policies
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and timely manner
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS office and online research tools
  • Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively and effectively
  • The ability to think and act independently in a client's best interest
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal ethics

The full salary range for this position is $156,000-$173,000. This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 10% of eligible pay.
