We are looking for Ph.D. experts in the field of biology in genetics, virology, and/or microbiology.
Task Description: To help us better understand the risks from biology-related capabilities in search and language models, we are asking participants to help us probe the frontiers of these tools. Candidates will interact with a new AI chatbot during the research study. The task is estimated to take six hours in total, the first hour is for the introduction and delivery of instructions, and 5 hours for engaging with the chatbot. Participants will be provided refreshments during the duration of the task. Registered participants will be able to select weekdays or weekends depending on their availability.

Duration of task: 6 hours
Location: On-Site (Los Angeles and/or South Bay area, CA)
Project start date: March 29, 2024
Compensation: USD 600 per session

Payment options: GoGift Cards paid on the day after the study is completed or Hyperwallet (through TELUS International AI Community Platform) - payments will be processed and paid out a couple of weeks after the study is completed.

Requirements:
• 18+ years of age
• English proficiency
• U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents with a valid permanent resident card or US registered refugees (student visas are not eligible)
• Be able to commute to the specified on-site location
• Attained Ph.D. in the field of biology in genetics, virology, and/or microbiology (will need to prove with an attached Ph.D. degree certificate)
• At least one year of hands-on professional experience in the wet lab (e.g. pipetting, growing cell cultures, running gels, etc - activities at a wet lab bench)
• At least 1 year of biosecurity experience (i.e. have worked in national security or US Department of Defense setting or with a government contractor on biosecurity work; this includes helping research or operational experience in bioweapons, pandemic preparedness, biodefense, dual-use synthetic biology, etc) and/or academic experience
• Participants can register only once for the study
• Successfully passed background check
