WHO WE ARE

TNTP brings research, policy, and consulting together to reimagine America's public education system. This work takes place in schools and districts across the country, and our national position allows us to spot trends, collect and analyze data, and advocate for policy changes that introduce greater impact at scale.

Today, we work side by side with educators, system leaders, and communities across 39 states and more than 6,000 districts nationwide to reach ambitious goals for student success.

We are a national nonprofit founded by teachers; TNTP is catalyzing a movement to redesign America's public education system. Committed to ensuring that all children receive an excellent education, our staff have experience across a wide range of fields, united by a fierce commitment to helping school systems end educational inequality. Our goal is to empower every student, breaking them free from the constraints of poverty and race, fostering innovation, and driving growth across the country. We collaborate across sectors and with school systems to ensure that the 3.5 million young people who graduate high school every year have pathways to economic and social mobility.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Staff in TNTP's Consulting Division support districts across the country in the implementation of a rigorous vision for effective instruction through the use of high-quality instructional materials. We support teachers and leaders to build their understanding and mindsets of research-based practices in early literacy, including a focus on knowledge-building and explicit teaching of foundational skills. As a Director, Early Literacy you will lead people and partner with clients on a portfolio of projects, contributing to our academic strategy and investing others in a vision that aligns work on individual projects with broader organizational priorities and goals for students.

Some responsibilities and duties may vary, but the role of Director, Early Literacy includes:

  • Developing, with our partners, theories of action and specific approaches to academic strategy, including support for high-quality instructional materials in early literacy, that will improve the quality of instruction at scale.
  • Managing the design and implementation of complex projects, strategies, and trainings for district leaders, school leaders, teachers, and other stakeholders to support strong instruction and ensure progress towards ambitious goals that improve outcomes for students at scale.
  • Facilitating and/or directly coaching district and school leaders in alignment with academic strategies.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of designing and supporting multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and/or Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies.
  • Leading and motivating internal teams to deliver quality services and outcomes through job embedded professional learning, coaching and frequent feedback cycles.
  • Cultivating and managing high-level client relationships with senior district/network leaders and other critical stakeholders such as school leaders and teachers.
  • Supporting districts in designing and building systems to monitor their progress against their academic and strategic priorities, utilizing data collection to drive goals and outcomes, and creating high-quality, data-driven reports demonstrating the effect of the team's approaches on quality of instruction.
  • Leading the customization and implementation of diagnostics that support clients in clarifying and identifying academic and strategic priorities.
  • Aligning district systems, resources, and structures to support evolving program/project strategies.
  • Managing diverse project teams, building inclusive teams, and growing and developing staff to be successful in their work and career.
  • Serve as a research practitioner, staying current on research-based best practices to generate new ideas for services, partnerships, and projects, including contributing to/writing proposals for new work in alignment with state and regional strategy.

  • Partner with education leaders. You'll regularly interact with, and be expected to influence clients, motivating and guiding them to lead transformative change efforts.
  • Build relationships. You have the ability to connect and build relationships with diverse communities. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
