Policy Intern

Practice: Policy

Compensation: $20.00 hr

About the role

Our Internship Program is a 10-week program commencing in June 2024 that will provide students the opportunity for professional development by building relationships, gaining corporate experience, learning about our industry, and preparing students with the experience needed to have a rewarding career within a purposefully built commercialization partner for the biopharmaceutical, medical technology, and wellness industries.

Avalere's Policy Practice Interns will work alongside a broad set of subject matter experts in Avalere's Policy Practice, gaining insight into pressing issues that the practice helps clients to understand and navigate. The Policy Interns will also contribute to firm products and client deliverables and work with subject matter experts to curate a practicum that can be leveraged as a personal writing sample. Within the Policy practice, Avalere will consider internship applications for Healthcare Generalists, Health Policy Generalists, and an intern to join our Policy team.

For the program's duration, you will be given the knowledge, support, and training required to supercharge your career in your chosen specialization area. Alongside having full access to our Career Experience Team, a suite of internal career experience platforms, and D&I employee network groups, you will be mentored by an expert in your chosen field.

What you will do

•Translate and communicate the implications of policy changes on clients' businesses and strategic priorities.

•Work independently and in cross-practice teams to contribute to the development and delivery of projects to clients.

•Support project teams with research requests.

•Draft written summaries, white papers, and PowerPoint presentations to provide strategic recommendations to clients.

•Use content expertise, solid proofreading, and layout skills to build client deliverables.

•Develop a practicum based on a topic area of interest/practice need that includes a research component, development of a deliverable (e.g., memo, presentation, etc.), and a final presentation to the practice.

Policy Practice Intern Duties and Responsibilities

•Curate and expand knowledge on policy-related issues impacting healthcare stakeholders (e.g., patients, drug manufacturers, health plans/payers, providers, etc.) with both a state and federal policy/regulatory focus.

•Work alongside Avalere's Policy 360 and State Reform 360 teams to summarize key health policy developments and evaluate the broader impact to stakeholders.

•Attending internal training to expand knowledge of key policy issues and grow personal subject matter expertise.

About you

•Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

•Must be goal-oriented and focused.

•Demonstrates a growth mindset, seeks feedback often and is influential in continuous personal and professional development.

•Shows punctuality, professionalism, and a positive attitude when completing assignments.

•Should possess the intellectual curiosity of health policy issues along with good judgment and decision-making skills.

•A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

•Basic experience working with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

•Must be a rising college senior, current senior, or graduate student with relevant coursework or experience.

•Ability to work in Avalere's office in Washington, DC, at least once a week.
