About Geocaching HQ

We are the global headquarters for the game of geocaching. Our apps and Geocaching.com website allow a community of millions of people to join in a real-world treasure hunt.

Our mission (and yours should you choose to accept it) is to inspire and enable discovery, exploration and adventure. Basically, everyone’s job here is to enable millions of people to have fun outside. How cool is that?

Position Overview

As QA Tester at Geocaching, you ensure that quality assurance processes and best practices are in place, and are followed, with respect to all aspects of operations and projects. You will work with our awesome team of developers and designers to deliver high quality custom applications while developing new processes and tools to further automate testing and create a self-help QA environment. You must be self- motivated, and able to balance the need for quality delivery now while improving tools and processes for the future. The development team you will be working with is currently practicing Continuous Delivery, but is transitioning from a ‘QA silo’ mindset to a Quality First approach and will need guidance and reinforcement.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with team members to construct team QA processes that embody the Quality First approach
  • Perform manual and automated testing across a mix of roadmap features, maintenance tasks, and live-service deployments
  • Create test plans and processes when appropriate for our established web sites and services as well as in-development projects. Collaborate with team members to understand deliverables, requirements, and testing.
  • Coordinate cross-team testing efforts for features that span our products
  • Identify opportunities for improving our ability to identify bugs and optimizations early in the development process
  • Act as owner and point-of-contact on the development team’s QA processes, philosophy, and education

Qualifications + Required Skills

  • 3+ years experience in QA or comparable background
  • Strong testing and debugging skills
  • Experience crafting test plans and test cases
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working as an embedded QA resource on a Continuous Delivery team strongly preferred
  • Ability to set-up and run automated test suites strongly preferred
  • Experience testing at a live-service/SaaS operation strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with web debugging software preferred
  • Familiarity with task-tracking software preferred (we use Jira)
  • Experience testing modern Javascript-based web stacks preferred
  • Familiarity with geocaching is always a MAJOR plus!

  • Results-Oriented: Outcomes matter; taking responsibility for the timing and results of work and projects.
  • Self-Awareness: Continually improving upon personal strengths and areas for growth. Recognizing and managing our own emotions; recognizing and responding well to the emotions of others.

Behaviors

  • Communicates clearly and effectively, displaying strong interpersonal skills
  • Exhibits tact and proper judgment under pressure and in sensitive situations
  • Desire to learn and take on new concepts, systems, and technologies
  • Self-directs and is proactive in testing. Attempts to debug an issue before writing it up.
