PURPOSE:

This is a summer internship program. The ideal candidate is someone who can commit to work full-time 40 hours per week. This position is fully remote, with some opportunities to meet with team members in person.

The Practice Consulting Intern works closely with the Practice Consulting team to support physicians and health systems ("providers") enrolled in CareFirst's commercial and government value-based programs to understand patterns in their population's health data and effectuate practice transformation strategies that improve quality and reduce global health care costs. The Practice Consulting Intern collaborates with internal subject matter experts to create resources that advance consulting services to physicians, key physician practice staff, executive level health system administrators, and other stakeholders to achieve program or contract goals. Depending on the background and interests of the individual, responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Analyzing the impact of Consulting Framework tools on Value Based Program (VBP) performance and outcomes.
  • Updating Practice Consulting resources and databases to advance the discipline of Practice Consulting at CareFirst.
  • Working within a cross matrix environment to develop resources for innovative strategy implementation.
  • Creating and updating trainings that reflect changes in market needs.
  • Improving efficiencies through creative solutioning using electronic tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: This position requires an individual working towards a Bachelor's or Graduate degree from an accredited college or university: Rising Senior Undergraduate student or Graduate student; preferably targeting a concentration in Public Health, Population Health Management, Healthcare Administration, Health Sciences, Health Services Coordination, Data Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, a specialization in Medicare, Medicaid, Social Determinants of Health, Health Equity, Value-Based Care, or related studies with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, hardworking and have a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to positively interface with and establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees.
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task and reprioritize work as necessary.
  • Willingness and ability to learn the ins-and-outs of Population Health Management from a payer perspective.
  • Strong MS Office skills especially working with MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Preferred, but not required:
  • Excellent data visualization skills especially working with Powerbi, Tableau, and Canva.
  • Strong analytical skills related to calculating and visualizing patterns in aggregate data.

    Salary Range: $18,720 - $26,000

The hire range posted is an annual rate. All intern positions will be paid hourly.
