The Automotive/Equipment Mechanic II will be part of the Facilities Management Division. This Division of 118 staff provides for the care and maintenance of the Department's physical assets including facilities, pavement, fleet, and major building systems. With a budget over $13 million dollars, the division is responsible for facility condition assessments, major and minor maintenance programs, and serves as the primary support to the Department's Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The division strives to achieve a balance between the upkeep of aging facilities and new construction by integrating a number of CIP and major maintenance projects into the daily work program each year. Fleet Services The Fleet Services Section consists of 30 staff located throughout Montgomery County. Staff include supervisors, mechanics and parts department employees that are responsible for vehicle acquisition, centralized maintenance and repair for all motorized equipment and oversight of 12 fueling stations Department-wide. Fleet operates out of the Green Farm Maintenance Facility in Gaithersburg plus 9 satellite maintenance yard/repair shops. The inventory of Vehicles is over 500 and Equipment is over 3,000 pieces, managed utilizing a system called Faster. The system was recently upgraded to a cloud-based system. Fleet provides specifications, bid and purchasing of vehicles and equipment for replacement each year. Mechanics perform repair and preventative maintenance to vehicles and equipment daily and contract out specialized repair work as needed.
