TNTP seeks summer Teacher Development Coaches for the Nevada Teacher Corps . This position is based in Las Vegas and is available in S ummer 20 2 4 .

TNTP's Nevada Teacher Corps consists of aspiring, newly licensed and experienced teachers who are committed to improving the odds for kids in Nevada by raising student achievement . This is an exciting time for education in Nevada, and the Nevada Teacher Corps will play an important role in new state-wide reform efforts . This is the eighth Pre -Service Training for the Nevada Teacher Corps - we intend to impact up to 65 teachers .

The Nevada Teacher Corps prepares Fellows to achieve immediate, measurable success with their students in the fall. Our training approach, called Fast Start, focuses on foundational skills that we believe Fellows must have to ensure a strong start to the school year as a new teacher. During their pre-service training, Fellows rehearse the foundational skills, receive coaching, an d practice them with students. Fellows must demonstrate proficiency in these skills in order to successfully complete pre-service training and become a teacher of record in the fall.

What You'll Do

Teacher Development Coaches are experienced and successful teachers who develop Fellows towards mastery of a small number of foundational skills that we believe Fellows must have to ensure a strong start to the school year as a new teacher.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Influence, coach, and motivate a group of approximately 8-10 Fellows to reach ambitious goals with students, and mastery of the four foundational skills by:


  • Observing and providing specific, actionable, on-the-spot feedback to individual Fellows multiple times per week on their teaching performance in a supervised summer school classroom
  • Planning and executing coaching experiences, including real-time coaching, that are based on performance data and offer opportunities for practice and immediate feedback
  • Evaluate Fellow performance by assessing Fellow proficiency , using data to identify trends in teacher performance and identifying the highest priority development areas on an individual and group level


  • Promote analytical self-reflection in Fellows in order to accelerate growth and student achievement
  • Review and provide feedback on lesson plans each week
  • Meet with other P re- S ervice T raining team members to provide data so they can plan meaningful training experiences and align on Fellow performance


  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment in alignment with the broader vision for P re-Service T raining within your group of Fellows and the broader cohort

We expect our Teacher Development Coaches to demonstrate a record of academic success working with students in high need schools, high expectations for students and teachers, and strong organizational and communication skills .

Qualifications

  • Minimum t hree years of successful teaching experience in high-need subject areas by the start of PST (required)
  • Have a standard E arly Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary Math Nevada Teaching License by the start of PST
  • Strong familiarity and experience with the Common Core State Standards (highly preferred)
  • Experience with Teach Like a Champion techniques ( preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire students and adults
  • Experience and /or comfort observing and providing direct feedback to teachers, both written and verbal, that leads to immediate teacher improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with adult learners quickly and to build strong working and mentoring relationships
  • Exceptional skills in time management, including the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A positive outlook, flexibility, and sense of possibility in stressful situations
  • Evidence of working successfully in teams or cooperative settings
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to utilize quantitative and qualitative ana lysis to support decision-making.


What We Offer

TNTP offers a competitive hourly wage commensurate with experience in a similar position, and Teacher Development Coaches can expect to make $40 per hour . Time Commitment

Teacher Development Coaches are expected to work approximately four to eight hours daily for the duration of the six -week field experience during pre-service training. Teacher Development Coaches can expect up to 15-20 hours of training over multiple days in the spring
