PURPOSE:

The Human Resources Benefits Analyst Intern will sit within our HR Total Rewards Division. You will have the unique opportunity to work alongside Senior level Benefits Analyst staff that support the entire organization. This area is responsible for support and assisting associates and vendors with Benefit Administration related questions and enrollment.

CareFirst runs a year-round internship program. The ideal candidate is someone who can work throughout the year 15-20 hours in the Spring/Fall and up to 35-40 hours in the summer. This student will be required to come into our Baltimore, MD and/or Owings Mills, MD locations a couple times per month for team meetings/events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Helps to administer corporate benefit plans and programs.
  • Work with a mentor and Senior Benefits Analyst to serve as a liaison between vendors and employees.
  • Assist with advising associates with eligibility, coverage, and other benefit matters.
  • Respond and interact with our HR Connect and Operations staff to address inquiries.
  • Verify integrity of data in HRIS via audit reports.
  • Input data entry of benefit elections.
  • Prepare and validate invoicing to assist with vendor administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Must be a rising Junior or Senior working towards an Undergraduate Degree from an accredited College or University.

Experience: Undergraduate student targeting majors in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; GPA: 3.0 or above.

Required Abilities/Skills:
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team and independently.
  • Educational exposure and interest in multiple human resource disciplines including, but not limited to compensation, benefits, employee relations, performance management, federal and state employment law.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong acumen to dealing with systems, data, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

Salary Range: $18,720 - $26,000

The hire range posted is an annual rate. All intern positions will be paid hourly.
