Description

Up to a $10,000 sign on bonus depending on level of experience with up to a 1 year commitment. Sign on bonus is eligible to external candidates and internal per diem candidates that have been employed with ProMedica for less than 6 months.

  • Ensures that specimens received in the laboratory are handled properly as to identification, numbering and preparation as smears or cell blocks.
  • Makes initial diagnosis on all cytopathology consultations.
  • Makes final diagnosis on all negative gynecological material; refers all abnormal gynecological material and all non-gyn material to pathologist for final diagnosis.
  • Utilizes laboratory computer information system to enter results correctly and enter necessary QC/QA information. Must be able to retrieve necessary patient information.
  • Recommends changes in procedures to address quality issues and provide customer satisfaction.
  • Participates in formal and informal education as related to clinical cytology and cytopathology. Maintains expertise through attendance of continuing education programs for personal growth and development.
  • Functions in a collegial and collaborative relationship with laboratory staff and other medical professionals in other departments, including radiology, OPC, surgery and oncology, to manage and plan for patients.
  • Records and maintains accurate records regarding slides screened and hours required for screening.
  • Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies by attending mandatory in-services and continuing laboratory education and participating in continuous quality improvement.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
  • Must be ASCP certified in cytotechnology with a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited college/university. Requires effective interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to move continuously about hospital and between workstations; and prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to understand directions and be able to communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to disease bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards and flammable liquids.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • Must be able to occasionally move, lift and/or carry lightweight materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds up to 5% of the time.
  • Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
