The Department of Music at Berea College invites applications for an interim or continuing adjunct position beginning August 2024 directing the Mariachi Ensemble. Rehearsals are 90 minutes for two evenings per week during the Spring and Fall terms (currently Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:00pm), with 3-4 performances each term. Mariachi Berea was established in 2015 to expand representation of and exposure to the musical heritage of Hispanic cultures, the fastest growing demographic in Appalachia. Students in the ensemble may be vocalists and/or instrumentalists. The ensemble is typically comprised of trumpets, violins, guitars, vihuela, and guitarrón. A Music degree is preferred but not required.


The ideal candidate will have an established record of excellence in performing Mariachi music. Experience as an ensemble director is a plus. They will also demonstrate collegiality and an informed understanding of carrying out Berea College’s unique mission.
