Job Overview

The Tax Specialist supports a variety of tax compliance disciplines, such as income, sales and use, and property taxes. This position prepares state and local tax returns, annual reports, and other miscellaneous compliance tasks, including administering the tax calendar. Additionally, it aids in developing, implementing, and executing efficient processes. Other duties may be assigned as well.

What You Will Do
  • Support tax compliance for assigned returns with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. Support or take ownership of tasks as assigned, and manage notices for those returns.
  • Research various federal, state, and local tax issues for communication with others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including supporting audit functions.
  • Pursue pipeline and developmental opportunities such as tax training, software training, HR-sponsored training, and give-back opportunities at Macy's.
  • Take on additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

Skills You Will Need

Interpersonal Skills: Effective interface with numerous partners within Macy's, fostering collaborative relationships.

Research Skills: Proficiency in researching tax literature to stay updated on tax laws and regulations.

Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in tax compliance and reporting.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills both internally and externally.

Independence: Capability to work independently, under minimal supervision, while maintaining productivity and quality standards.

Mathematical Proficiency: Above-average mathematical skills, including the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.

Critical Thinking: Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically to address tax-related challenges and opportunities.

Organization and Time Management: Excellent organization and time management skills to effectively manage tasks and meet deadlines.

Computer Proficiency: Knowledge of MS Office computer programs and proficiency in income tax software, preferably Onesource.

  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. CPA preferred. 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
