Description The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), a six-time National Recreation and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner is seeking a Principal GIS Specialist as part of the Park Planning and Environmental Stewardship Division (PPES) in the Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation. As an integral part of Park Planning and Environmental Stewardship, the Principal GIS Specialist is a critical and strategic position that serves as performs as an expert and project leader in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the geographic information systems (GIS) and data analysis functions of the Division. The Park Planning and Environmental Stewardship Division is responsible for supporting the Department's significant Capital improvement Program through land acquisitions, park planning, and design of parks and recreation facilities throughout the County. Under direct supervision, the CAD GIS Technician/Geospatial Analyst will work to assist the Park Planning and Land Acquisition Sections of the Park Planning & Environmental Stewardship Division with the creation of static and dynamic maps and analysis to support and manage park assets and amenities department wide. This includes drafting technical documents, creating maps and graphics, building, and maintaining datasets within Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and managing data in spreadsheets and other systems. The Technician/Analyst will also support data collection and mapping work related to the park inventory, leases, agreements, and land records. Examples of Important Duties
Minimum Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Information Technology, Photogrammetry, Cartography, Surveying or any related field. 2. One (1) year of experience in mapping, data analysis, data administration, data production, data management or technical end-user support. 3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years. 4. Depending on area of assignment, a valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
