If this sounds like you, Locust Grove Nature Center could be your place! We are?currently seeking a friendly Nature Center Host to welcome visitors to the center and help them get the most out of their visit.

Examples of Important Duties

Hosting

  • Be the first face a visitor sees on site, welcoming guests, answering questions in person and over the phone, and orienting them to the facility and programs offered.?
  • Ensure the space is ready for guests each day, open and close using checklists to ensure that each visitor has a positive interaction with the site. Ensure safety, security, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Check in rental groups for pavilion and fire ring rentals
  • Notifies management or emergency personnel in

?Programs??

  • Deliver pre-planned programs including birthday parties and scout programs.?
  • Check in groups for programs and follow up that the space is prepared and returned to open state afterwards

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications?

  • Some College and two (2) years of related experience in customer service or program presentations
  • Ability to communicate in another language a plus.?
  • Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) or Host (CIH) with the National Association for Interpretation
  • Certified Maryland Master Naturalist

Minimum Qualifications?

  • A High School diploma ?
  • Two (2) years of experience in Customer Service, Program presentations, Birthday Parties, rentals, or as a Naturalist aide or Camp Counselor
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (2) years.?

Working Conditions

  • Work in Outdoor and Indoor Settings, may be exposed to inclement weather and outdoor hazards
  • Work is scheduled during weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and hike for 3 miles over uneven terrain

The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
