Job Overview

The Senior Manager, Visual is responsible for creating and maintaining the Macy's Herald Square Flagship Brand Experience through powerful, relevant, and integrated campaigns, fashion presentations, and category distortions within Beauty, Center Core, and Jewelry. They drive sales through a balance of creative execution and strategic analysis of trends, key items, and volume drivers. Relevant leadership experience in Visual Merchandising, Store Presentation, Design, Fashion, and the general retail market is required. This individual reports to the Herald Square Senior Director of Visual.

What You Will Do
  • Direct and manage the visual and merchandising presentation standards for Beauty, Center Core, and Jewelry.
  • Lead the team through the creative process to conceptualize and design visual merchandising components that support seasonal, fashion, trend, and holiday campaigns within the families of business (FOB).
  • Foster strong partnerships with the Beauty business office and vendor partners to brainstorm, build, and install weekly/monthly installations representing brand launches and weekly GWP's.
  • Plan, manage, and maintain the annual expense budget, overseeing cost controls on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Interface and collaborate with key stakeholders to manage all timelines, deliveries, and installations of visual equipment, fixtures, and shops, including communication and collaboration with Corporate, Regional, Division, and Store partners.
  • Collaborate with key business partners to capture and support fashion, trend, marketing, special appearances, and events to drive sales, including corporate partners, Marketing, Events, and vendor partners.
  • Utilize the latest technologies, industry trends, and research to source new presentation concepts. Must have a strong interest and curiosity for design, art, interiors, and graphic design.
  • Coach and develop Visual Leads and visual colleagues, conducting ongoing talent calibration and quarterly succession planning.
  • Create and maintain an engaged team by building trust and promoting Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace.
Skills You Will Need

Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading visual merchandising and store presentation teams within the retail industry, with a focus on driving brand experiences and sales.

Creative and Strategic Thinking: Ability to balance creative execution with strategic analysis of trends, key items, and sales drivers to enhance the brand's visual identity and drive sales.

Partnership and Collaboration: Strong ability to foster partnerships with internal stakeholders such as Beauty business offices, vendor partners, corporate departments, and regional/divisional teams to ensure successful execution of visual initiatives.

Project Management: Exceptional skills in managing timelines, deliveries, and installations of visual equipment, fixtures, and shops across multiple projects simultaneously.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and stakeholders.

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills combined with creativity to drive data-informed decisions in visual merchandising and presentation strategies.

Independence and Organization: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, organize multiple projects effectively, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.

Results-Oriented: A results-driven mindset with a sense of urgency and commitment to follow-through on initiatives to achieve desired outcomes.

Flexibility and Problem-Solving: Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and problem-solving skills to adapt to changing priorities and overcome challenges in the visual merchandising environment.

Software Proficiency: Proficiency in software tools such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, SketchUp, and Excel for design, presentation, and data analysis purposes.

  • Candidates with a High School Diploma or equivalent are encouraged to apply. 5+ years of experience in Visual Merchandising, Design or Retail.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
