Summary:

The Staff Audiologist will have the education, knowledge and skill to provide in-patient and hospital based-outpatient services, focusing on diagnosing hearing loss for all pediatric ages. The Audiologist works closely with the child, his/her family, speech pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, school personnel, specialists, and physicians to recommend and implement a plan which enhances a child's functional hearing to facilitate learning and development. Cook Childrens audiologists also specialize in serving children who have been unable to complete routine audiology testing in traditional settings. Audiology services provided include: behavioral audiometry, auditory brainstem response, otoacoustic emissions, infant newborn hearing screenings, evaluation and selection of hearing aids (includes dispensing, testing and repairs), FM systems, other assistive listening devices, custom ear plugs for swimming and noise protection, and cochlear implants. The Audiologist will provide services for chronically ill patients admitted to hospital for lengthy stays, as well as see additional outpatients for sedated ABR procedures, follow up with H/O clinic, and completion of newborn hearing screenings. This position is also responsible for fielding phone calls, reviewing inpatient or outpatient procedure medical records for patients that have seen other outpatient audiologists or have not yet seen audiologists at all, and providing HIPAA related information to other healthcare providers for decision making regarding future audiology needs. The position shall include patient and caregiver education and consultation to other professionals, clinics and agencies, both within Cook Childrens Health Care System and within the community. Documentation and correspondence pertaining to these services shall follow department and system policies.

Education:
  • Clinical Doctorate degree in Audiology or PhD in Audiology.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure:
  • CPR certification.
  • State license for Audiology.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in audiology (ASHA) or Board Certified in Audiology (ABA) or eligible to apply for Certificate which must be obtained within 12 months of hire to maintain employment at Cook.
