Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Interpreter, LAS Program.

In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for providing Spanish language interpreting services to Medical Center patients/families who are limited English proficient and Hospital staff. Also assists with scheduling and dispatching spoken language interpreting services.
This job is specifically for Spanish

Job Responsibilities:
    • Provides spoken language medical interpreting services for patients/families and staff.
    • Utilizes Hospital and Community resources for professional development and keeps current on changes in the medical interpreter profession.
    • Respects and maintains confidentiality of all patient, physician, staff and hospital related information.
    • Reports concerns and/or conflicts to LAS Coordinator or LCDS Manager accordingly.
    • Follows-up and intervenes directly with areas/units when scheduling conflicts and/or issues arise. Demonstrates excellent communication (both written and verbal) and customer service skills with all levels of Medical Center staff and patients (both in person and via telephone/email).
    • Assists with scheduling, dispatching and managing spoken language interpreting services, while communicating with staff, freelance and agency interpreters as needed.
    • Provides cultural brokering to patients/families and staff as needed.
    • Provides non-medical, non-clinical translations when appropriate. Recognizes limitations of providing translated documents and defers to qualified medical translators when indicated.
    • Educates staff on how to access, contact and schedule interpreting services. Educates staff on the appropriate and available use of interpreters and translation services (including provision of sight translations).
    • Adheres to the Code of Ethics as put forth by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).
    • This position requires flexible hours
    • additional tasks as requested

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts, Healthcare field, Foreign Language or Certificate of Completion in an Interpreting Training Program. Verbal and written fluency in Chinese, or Spanish, or Russian and English. Minimum of 2 to 3 years of medical interpreting experience. Possesses good analytic skills to make decisions based on clinical implications. Highly proficient in use of MS Office. Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task. Good interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication, teamwork and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred certification as medical interpreter by National Board of Certification or Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters. Previous experience providing translations of written materials. Basic knowledge of Excel.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $62,400.00 - $77,168.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
