Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Director of Clinical Engineering.

This highly visible and energetic leadership position is responsible for all aspects of Clinical Engineering Management at NYU Langone Health. Through direct and indirect reporting relationships, the Senior Director leads the Clinical Engineering Operations and Medical Equipment Planning teams throughout the lifecycle of the medical technology for the NYU Langone Healthcare enterprise. Directs and manages the process of medical equipment inspection, testing and maintenance. Leads the preparation and ongoing compliance with the Joint Commission Medical Equipment Management Plan as well as Federal, State and Local performance and documentation requirements. Directs and manages the process of medical equipment planning and procurement for capital construction projects from project conception through planning, design, construction, operational occupancy and project closeout. Leads technology transitions related to medical equipment implementation and upgrade projects. Oversees medical equipment integration, cybersecurity, EMR data continuity and Operational Analytics teams. Collaborates and coordinates with Hospital Operations regarding equipment logistics and maintenance support.

Job Responsibilities:
    • Direct the Clinical Engineering services for the NYU Langone Healthcare System consisting of hospitals, laboratories, surgical centers, ambulatory clinics, and related facilities.
    • Direct the sourcing of spare parts and services for the maintenance and repair activities associated with medical equipment management.
    • Direct and lead the regulatory compliance of medical equipment with the Joint Commission Standards as well as Federal, State and Local agencies.
    • Direct the enterprise-wide Medical Equipment Management Plan across multiple campuses and associated offsite Article 28 facilities.
    • Manage the Clinical Engineering Planning team in their support of the equipment planning of Capital Projects.
    • Oversee the Medical Equipment Strategic Planning process for the Medical Center in collaboration with Hospital Operations.
    • Manage the Clinical Engineering Analyst team in their support of the Medical Center equipment standards, specifications, procurement and receiving.
    • Effectively protect institutional interests and ensure appropriate controls are in place to ensure compliance with all financial, regulatory and safety requirements.
    • Ensure effective and appropriate communication and customer service is maintained with the Medical Center community and outside agencies.
    • Recommend and process personnel activities such as recruiting, interviewing, hiring, evaluation, promoting and disciplining department management staff.
    • Provides leadership of the Medical Equipment Planning Design and Specification process.
    • Serves as the key medical equipment subject matter expert for NYU Langone Health.
    • Possesses deep knowledge of medical equipment integration and cybersecurity terminology to participate and support the Health System's device integration and information security needs.
    • Establishes, tracks, monitors and reports on medical equipment related project goals and objectives.
    • Recruits and develops a team of medical technology planners and support staff to manage all required business functions.
    • Maintains effective communications with all medical equipment stakeholders (Medical/Clinical, Finance, Information Services, Facilities and Administration) involved in the acquisition, use, and maintenance of healthcare technologies.
    • Participates and contributes to Health System Committees and Task Forces, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Healthcare administration or related field.
Ten (10) years of Clinical Engineering operations management and Medical Equipment Planning/Project Management experience in an academic medical center environment.
Experience with managing the daily hospital operations of a healthcare organization using database systems, dashboards and reports.
Previous experience in a management role with demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful strategic plans and teams in a unionized environment.
Experience in managing a broad range of healthcare projects (new / renovation / expansion) from conception to completion with significant budgetary and time constraints.
Experience with managing projects with various clinical workflows and medical technology requirements for inpatient, procedural and ambulatory clinical care areas.
Knowledge of industry standards, space requirements, best practices and emerging trends for Health Systems Medical Equipment.
Experience in developing strategic medical equipment replacement plans based on life cycle cost analyses.
Solution-oriented approaches, critical thinking skills and the ability to navigate and successfully resolve conflict.
A proven track record of providing exceptional service and developing unbreakable partnerships with customers, staff, and vendors.
Superior business acumen, agility, and confidence in making decisions, especially regarding budget management proficiency.
Experience leading high performing teams including mentoring/development of new and existing talent within organizations..

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Healthcare administration or related field, or MBA or Graduate Degree in a health science discipline preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $266,846.94 - $300,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
