Our ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with others and has strong interpersonal skills. Special event staff will perform routine duties associated with the provision of customer service to include set up and break down, event marketing and promotion assistance, guest greeter, inventory inspector, and other duties as assigned. Typically works on an on-call basis at specified events.

In addition to job roles, event staff will likely be on their feet for the duration of an event and need a certain level of energy and enthusiasm to succeed.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Setting up necessary chairs and items for events
  • Marketing and promotions of events
  • Being responsible for facilitating seating organization in respect to fire code regulations and working as a runner
  • Being assigned various tasks by the event manager
  • Facilitating the proper organization and cleanliness of venues
  • Upholding any necessary safety precautions
  • Providing high levels of customer service
  • Welcoming guests to the venue
  • Providing relevant information to event attendees
  • Cleaning and maintenance of event equipment and supplies
  • Checking equipment into an inventory system and inspecting for potential damage
  • Aiding in event packing after the event
  • Attends parking areas at events, as appropriate to position, assisting patrons with entering and leaving lots, checking parking passes, and in some cases taking parking fees.
  • Performs various similar duties as required by circumstances at specific events, such as clearing trash from facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Customer service experience required, preferably experience with providing event support

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.

The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
