Summary of the Group

Dynamic Omics is part of the Centre for Genomics Research (CGR) and Discovery Sciences within AstraZeneca, and works across all therapeutic areas (Oncology, Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM), Respiratory and Immunology (R&I), Vaccines and Immunotherapies (V&I) and Neurosciences). You will be responsible for establishing novel proteomic methods and procedures, sample and data processing and analysis as well as optimizing our state-of-the-art mass spectrometry systems. The Dynamic Omics team delivers key data to projects across all phases of the drug discovery and development, and we work with all modalities from small molecules to biologics. As a member of the Dynamic Omics and CGR groups, you will be actively involved in analyzing preclinical and clinical samples using high-throughput proteomics workflows and advanced bioinformatics.

We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic scientist, able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with project teams across scientific disciplines and therapeutic areas to contribute to iterative experimental design and mechanistic hypotheses generation through the interpretation of complex proteomics data. Applicants should possess strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment, regularly presenting internal updates and contributing to publication strategy in high level peer-reviewed journals and international conferences.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

This role will primarily support proteomic collaborations across both Early Oncology and Biopharmaceuticals R&D. Key responsibilities will be operation and maintenance of mass spectrometers to ensure instrument data is accurately acquired and analyzed. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work and grow in a fast-paced environment under the supervision of senior staff members.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry instrumentation (timsTOF HT, timTOF Ultra, Orbitrap Astral).
  • Develop and apply all aspects of proteomics workflows including experimental design, sample analysis, data analysis, and summarize data for presentations, reports, and publications.
  • Lead the development and optimization of new proteomic technologies and data analysis platforms.
  • Lead collaborations and communicate effectively with internal and external experts from a variety of technical backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate creative and independent scientific thinking to solve complex technical and scientific problems.
  • Operate effectively in a multidisciplinary matrix research environment, providing leadership and insight.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Education: PhD in analytical chemistry, proteomics, biochemistry or relevant field.

Experience:

PhD with 1+ years of relevant postdoc or industry experience.

Required Skills:
  • Experience with all aspects of proteomics workflows including sample preparation, mass spectrometry instrument operation, data analysis, and bioinformatics.
  • Extensive hands-on experience developing advanced proteomics applications, preferably on timsTOF or Orbitrap platforms.
  • Proven track record of leading projects in highly-collaborative and cross-functional research environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and advance projects by designing and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, and summarizing experimental results for presentations, reports, and publications.
  • Experience with a variety of proteomic data analysis and bioinformatic tools, including commercial software and programing languages such as R or Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects that result in high-quality scientific publications.

Desired Skills:
  • Expertise in DIA for high-throughput proteomic workflows.
  • Experience with analysis of post-translational modifications (PTMs) such as phosphorylation and glycosylation.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization.
