Part-time Classroom Evaluator - Nevada Teacher Corps

Las Vegas, NV

WHO WE ARE

TNTP brings research, policy, and consulting together to reimagine America's public education system. Working collaboratively, we dig into educators' toughest challenges, and we provide actionable solutions grounded in evidence. This work takes place in schools and districts across the country, and our national position allows us to spot trends, collect and analyze data, and advocate for policy changes that introduce greater impact at scale. Our goal is to empower every student, breaking them free from the constraints of poverty and race, fostering innovation, and driving growth across the country. We collaborate across sectors and with school systems to ensure that the 3.5 million young people who graduate high school every year have pathways to economic and social mobility.

TNTP's Nevada Teacher Corps (NTC) consists of aspiring teachers who are committed to improving the odds for kids in Nevada by raising student achievement. NTC prepares Fellows to achieve immediate, measurable success with their students in the fall. This is the seventh year of operation for the NTC and this year we intend to work with 30 teachers.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Part-time Classroom Evaluators will be responsible for conducting evaluative classroom observations for alternate-route teachers who are participating in TNTP Academy. The information gathered by evaluators will aid in NTC's understanding of beginning teachers' growth trajectory and form an important part of how we ultimately measure their effect on student learning. This position is currently grant funded through June 2026.

Some responsibilities and duties may vary, but the role of Part-time Classroom Evaluator includes:
  • Completing 20-25 hours of virtual training as well as 3-4 ongoing professional development sessions for the observer team throughout the academic year. Initial training will be conducted virtually via an online course supplemented by webinars/conference calls.
  • Conducting evaluative observations using the TNTP Core Teaching Rubric in four distinct rounds. Rounds last four to eight weeks each, beginning in September/October 2024 and continuing through early May 2024. Specific observation rounds will vary by site, and each round is separated by several weeks without any observations. The information gathered by evaluators will aid in NTC's understanding of beginning teachers' growth trajectory and form an important part of how we ultimately measure their effect on student learning.
  • Scheduling observations during each observation round for all assigned teachers (10-30 teachers, depending on the site), based on teachers' schedules and availability
  • Observing assigned teachers during the scheduled observation round for an announced observation during the regular school day that will last generally 45-90 minutes per participant (a full class period/lesson cycle)
  • Observers must be available for variable times between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Traveling to local schools, using personal transportation
  • Writing a comprehensive observation report aligned to the NTC's Academy Year standards for ratings, and submitting reports electronically to the program
  • Participating in all required introductory and ongoing training, team meetings, and one-on-one check-ins
  • Demonstrating the ability to accurately evaluate teacher performance based on TNTP's observation rubric (observer candidates who do not pass training will not continue in the role)

Time Commitment
Evaluators will be assigned a caseload of teachers (generally 10-30) with whom they must schedule observations during each round based on the teachers' instructional schedules and the evaluator's availability. While evaluators can expect to work ~10-20 hours per week during observation cycles, weekly working time will vary based on how the evaluator chooses to schedule his/her assigned observations. Evaluators will not be expected to work more than 20 hours per week, and there will be several weeks without any observations between each round.

Training (20-25 hours) will take place in August/September via an online course and webinar/conference call; more details about the structure and content of training will be shared later in the hiring process. Observations will be conducted in four distinct rounds, with dates for each round dependent on the site's needs but likely beginning in September/October and ending in May. Again, staffing needs will vary by site, and observation windows are generally four to eight weeks in length. Information specific to your site will be provided throughout the interview process.
