The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is an unprecedented six-time National Gold Medal Award winner for excellence in park and recreation management. This award is given by the National Recreation and Parks Association, the professional accreditation organization of recreation management.

The Department of Parks & Recreation, Special Programs Division (SPPRO) is currently seeking a highly-skilled Administrative Assistant III in the division office. This position is part of an administrative team that reports directly to the Administrative Supervisor. SPD is comprised of five units, including Health and Wellness, Senior Services, Therapeutic Recreation, Disability and Youth Services.

The Administrative Assistant III will be responsible for direct administrative support to the Administrative Supervisor. Duties include: collecting, preparing and processing data and documents for personnel, recruitment and financial work program, monitoring processes to ensure consistency, accuracy and conformance with policies and procedures. Must use initiative and independent judgement in executing assignments. Familiarity with various software used by the Commission to include: Kronos, Lawson, SharePoint, Adobe (Adobe Sign) is a plus.

Examples of Important Duties

Support to the Administrative Supervisor and Division and provide support as needed for the following:
  • Process purchase requisitions, check requests, invoice/contract payments, contracts, expense reports, serve as purchase cardholder and petty cash custodian.
  • Process confidential personnel information - personnel actions and performance evaluations; maintain personnel files. Monitor evaluation tracking system and notify managers of due dates to ensure timely submissions. Maintain NCSI Background Check logs. Assist with scheduling of interviews, testing and collect and organize recruitment data for finalizing of recommendation packets.
  • Collect data, create and maintain spreadsheets, and accurately compile and prepare information for various budget, payroll, projects and events, reports, meetings and presentations.
  • Attend and serve as scribe for monthly and quarterly administrative and unit team meetings.
  • Records management - maintain automated tracking system of document flow, as well as keep digital and paper document filing systems as appropriate.
  • Assist w/event coordination - location/room logistics, AV needs, meeting invitations, prepare materials and information packets, gather attendance sheets, coordinate catering as needed, etc.
  • Assist with submitting EAM requests, maintain office and xerox supply inventory, process user management and automation requests for new employees.
  • Coordinate special projects and assignments.


  • Minimum Qualifications

    1. High school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
    2. Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience that includes at least two (2) years in administrative and clerical support work and at least one (1) year of technical support experience in the administrative management areas of the specific position to be filled.
    3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 4 years.

    Eligibility
    You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.

    Retirement Programs
    • Defined Benefit Plan (Mandatory Participation) - Plan E excludes FOP members.

    Plan C: 9.5%*of base salary (FOP members only)
    Plan E: 4% of base salary up to maximum Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and 8% in excess of SSWB.

    • Two (2) times base salary; maximum benefit is $200,000 for each
