This is what you will do:

The Director, US Enterprise policy will support the US commercial business with a focus on the Oncology and Biopharmaceuticals therapeutic areas, reporting to the Head of Public Health Policy. This position will play a critical role in advancing AstraZeneca's US policy priorities and executing strategic alignment and pull-through of proactive and reactive policy shaping opportunities including in the areas of: 1) US -foreign relations (i.e. Embassies and Consulates) and 2) American biopharma capacity onshoring and economic development through government partnerships.

You will be responsible for:
  • Develop and execute public policy positions and strategies to support the goals of the US business as a whole, Therapeutic Area priorities, and US Corporate Affairs
  • Collaborate closely with members of the US & Global Government Affairs teams on government affairs priorities
  • Lead the development and execution of internal and external programs to drive awareness around US public policy issues, ensuring alignment with AZ federal and government affairs leadership.
  • Work with US Corporate Affairs, including Alliance Development, Government Partnerships and Government Affairs colleagues at the global, federal and state levels to support relationships with key stakeholder groups on policy issues
  • Participate in trade association work groups to represent the company's interests
  • Serve as AstraZeneca's representative to key business and bilateral organizations to advance our corporate sustainability, health equity and economic development goals.
  • Demonstrate and maintain strong working relationships with key external stakeholders (including but not limited to: foreign Embassies in the United States, trade associations, think tanks, and third party allies
  • Clearly and impactfully communicate AstraZeneca positions on assigned issues to federal agencies and other external stakeholders
NOTE: This is a US-based position with limited or no travel overseas.

You will need to have:
  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • 7+ years of demonstrated success working in public policy arena and/or U.S. government and/or related background
  • Expert knowledge of the transforming U.S. health system - finance and payment structures, benefit design, care delivery, patents, tax, trade workforce development, etc.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to identify and focus on strategic priorities.
  • Ability to bring together different internal partners, and move an agenda forward to resolution and action.
  • Consistent record in identifying policy trends affecting public health and advancing policy solutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to influence and effectively lead internal and external audiences to desired outcomes.
  • Ability to manage numerous, competing priorities under pressure while effectively collaborating with internal partners
  • Sound business judgment and integrity and an ability to build credible, effective working relationships both internally and externally
  • Strong geopolitical acumen
  • Ability to participate in work-related after hours events as needed-up to 30% of time.

We would prefer for you to have:
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed organization
  • Experience working in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Experience working on Capitol Hill, at a Federal agency or at The White House; or experience working for an advocacy organization
