Scientist, Cell Therapy

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

We are seeking a highly motivated and independent in vivo Scientist with demonstrated experience in Cellular Therapy, Immunology, and/ or Immuno-Oncology to join our rapidly growing Cell Therapy Team. Working in this laboratory-based position, you will make use of your in vivo and in vitro experience in T cell immunology to develop, design, conduct and analyze experiments to assess the function and mechanism of action of innovative Cell Therapy and immuno-oncology products.

What you'll do
  • Conducts hands-on in vivo research and contributes to the plans and designs of in vivo studies.
  • Conducts routine drug discovery research experiments independently by applying the techniques of molecular and cellular biology, communicates the results to team members and is involved in the interpretation of data.
  • Supports a team and works collaboratively with project managers to ensure the efficient relay of information and forward translation of data.
  • Assesses and reports data, with little or no guidance, in a clear and concise manner, while developing an understanding of its implications within the overall context of drug discovery
  • Provides technical instruction to the team and allocates administrative work where possible.
  • Communicates and shares information between distinct projects within the bioscience function and across other functions.
  • Ensures own work, and work of peers, is compliant with Safety, Health and Environment standards and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards and external regulations.

Essentials for the Role
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in Cellular Therapy, Immunology, and/ or Immuno-Oncology
  • Extensive in vivo skillset including animal handling, syngeneic murine, xenograft and PDX tumor models, standard routes of dosing and engraftment, tissue processing, PK/PD and efficacy studies.
  • Proficiency in tail vein dosing.
  • Well-developed understanding of molecular and cellular biology, immunological assays, and cell transfection/ transduction
  • Ability to design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments, and to review, analyze, and interpret results.

Desirables for the Role
  • Experience with a range of in vitro assays, including but not limited to ELISA, multicolor flow cytometry, immunoblotting, PCR.
  • In vitro and in vivo experience with murine T cells
  • Basic experience developing cellular therapies including CAR-T/ CAR-NK, TCR-T, and/ or TIL therapies.
  • Background in drug discovery and development in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience with complex in vivo systems, including but not limited to orthotopic xenograft models, humanized mice, in vivo imaging of luciferase labelled tumor models.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $87,000 to $130,000. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles) or to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
