Brief Description Supervises the daily case management and counseling activities and other social services components to ensure that clients receive appropriate medical, mental, social, financial educational, housing or specialized services in compliance with all applicable laws, policies, procedures and standards. Supervises a unit or division of counseling, case management and support staff members and interns. Detailed Description Supervises and provides support, orientation, training and guidance to case management, counseling and support staff.Coordinates work activities and assigns projects to maintain appropriate staff to client ratios; assists staff in handling special and/or problem cases to ensure clients receive needed services; and performs case work and/or counseling duties in the absence of staff.Monitors and reviews daily operations to ensure reporting compliance with all applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.Conducts audits of casework documentation and client records to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, policies and procedures.Provides consultation to other divisions, departments, agencies, academic/counseling and service providers. Serves as back-up to staff and assumes all duties as necessary, i.e., administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, processing intake assessments or discharges, and disciplining youths. Must be physically able to perform "handling with care techniques, including takedowns, chasing and restraining youth" as outlined in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) requirement.Compiles statistical data utilized for performance evaluation of unit and staff, and generates monthly statistical and ad hoc reports as requested.Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education, Experience and Training:Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a social or behavioral sciences field, Criminal Justice, or in a job related field of study. Three (3) years of professional work related experience in the specialized area assigned, including one (1) year of supervisory experience. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Skilled in individual and group counseling or training. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record.Juvenile: Depending on the location of the position, the applicant may be required to possess 40 hours of professional/approved in-service training, with a professional certification relating to counseling, social work, criminal justice, psychology or in other related field. For positions located in the Substance Abuse Division, the applicant must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), a Certified Juvenile Probation Officer, and be able to obtain certification in first aid/CPR within 6 months of hire. All positions in Juvenile must pass an extensive background investigation, with mandatory drug testing prior to employment and subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment.• Position requires working with juveniles who may have committed dangerous/ aggressive acts; should possess a high tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful work environment.• An employee may be transferred to another department, shift, location, or facility based on the needs of the Department. • Working in a 24-hour facility may make the employee subject to working mandatory overtime or remaining on duty and working all, or a part of, an additional shift ("double shift"). • The incumbent is / may be considered to be 'essential personnel' subject to being held over or called back to a work location or alternate site at all times. When required, you will be notified by your supervisor.• Must be at least 21 years of age (for applicable positions) and must pass all portions (physical/written) of the Juvenile Academy to continue employment or all standards related to PREA and Ethics for specific positions.Physical/Environmental Requirements:Standard office environment. Ability to travel to various work site locations.JUVENILE: This position may be located within a secured facility and require the ability to restrain and/or chase youth.
