Brief Description Serves as the Governmental Letter of Authority (GLOA) Security Officer specially commissioned to patrol and perform regulatory duties related to the safeguarding of Dallas County property. Works outside direct supervision, completes routine police reports and forms, carries firearms and intermediate weapons; attends TXDPS and law enforcement in-service training; enforces fire code/county ordinances and other life safety codes; monitors fire and life safety equipment; operates patrol vehicles and directs traffic; assists Marshal Service peace officers as directed. Management Scope: May provide leadership to Public Safety Screeners. Detailed Description Performs security duties in and around County property and assists in controlling disturbances and access on County property, takes necessary action to prevent injury to persons and loss of property, and reports all circumstances to immediate supervisor in addition to completing court ready police reports.Responds to fire alarms, bomb threats, medical emergencies, burglar alarms and other calls for service. Helps coordinate evacuation of buildings when necessary. Assists with the oversight of screening persons entering the Courts buildings of Dallas County, and documents any problems that occur.Reports maintenance needs identified while performing rounds and operates as dispatch for maintenance after hours and weekends. Responds to investigate issues.Enforces County ordinances and policies (i.e. smoking, soliciting, parking violations, traffic enforcement etc.) on County property.Extinguishes lights and secures doors on County property during non-business hours, patrols, and escorts County personnel. Works in inclement weather conditions. Documents lost and found merchandise, confiscated items, and contraband; notifies supervisor in charge with issues.Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education, Experience and Training:Graduation from an accredited high school/GED Program. Fifteen (15) college hours preferred. One (1) year of satisfactory security experience OR work-related experience OR active military service with an honorable discharge. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record. Must be 21 years of age and meet the minimum mental and physical standards, be certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau and have completed a board approved 40-hour training program (level three training) and be awarded a certificate of completion from a board approved security officer training school. Knowledge and proficiency in the safe handling of firearms and maintain departmental firearms proficiency standards. Mandatory physical and psychological exam. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment.Physical/Environmental Requirements:Binocular vision, correctable to 20/30. Able to discriminate between standard colors. Capable of hearing ordinary conversation at ten feet, with each ear. The use of hearing aid is permissible. Additional Details An extensive pre-employment background investigation will be conducted on all applicants who have been offered a position with Dallas County.
