Serves as the specialist for specimen processing in the Public Health Laboratory, ensuring accurate handling and data entry vital for patient diagnostics. Performs specimen handling, documentation, and systematized data entry, utilizing expertise in laboratory information systems. Functions as a key liaison with clients to streamline test requisitions and operational efficiency, upholding accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Detailed Description

Specimen and product receipt, integrity assessment, and documentation.Performs data entry and order processing in Laboratory Information Systems.Prepares and distributes specimens to appropriate lab sections. Communicates with healthcare providers for test order clarification.Manages inventory for supplies and products.Provides customer service and information provision to authorized individuals.Participates in process improvement and compliance activities.Maintains updates of trends and developments in industry.Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education, Experience and Training:Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology, engineering or related field of study. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Requires comprehensive knowledge of specimen processing techniques and proficiency in laboratory information systems. The ability to articulate clearly and effectively with both technical staff and management, employing discerning judgment to make informed decisions regarding specimen handling and data entry practices. Must possess strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently under tight deadlines. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record.Physical/Environmental Requirements:Ability to lift, carry and push up to 40 lbs., unassisted. Ability to wear required laboratory safety equipment to include but not limited to masks, safety coveralls, boots, and respirator and perform required activities. Works in a laboratory environment testing potentially hazardous specimens. Ability to travel to various work site locations.
