"The Walgreens PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program prepares clinicians to provide direct patient care services as community or ambulatory care pharmacists, in addition to preparing them for an adjunct faculty position. Residents will be enabled to achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, provide compassionate care for members in their community, and contribute to the Walgreen Company's mission of advancing community pharmacy practice.

The residency experience is based in Phoenix, AZ at a Community Walgreens pharmacy that is an innovative community pharmacy practice dedicated to providing clinical patient care services centered around specialty pharmacy and is an ideal setting for the development of patient care programs. Residents in this setting will have a direct influence on patient outcomes through participation in patient counseling, immunization services, and medication therapy management.

The residency is academically affiliated and financially supported, in part, by Midwestern University College of Pharmacy-Glendale. The resident will complete a teaching certificate program and will actively participate in teaching and precepting experiences at the College.

Residency Activities
-Direct patient care delivered in both community pharmacy settings and primary care clinics
-Public health activities: community outreach programs
-Development of collaborative program to improve adherence and/or outcomes
-Medication therapy management
-Disease state management programs
-Provide health testing services
-Administer immunizations
-Develop or enhance existing patient care programs
-Complete a Teaching Certificate Program
-Provide clinical instruction and serve as a preceptor to student pharmacists
-Design and conduct a practice based research project
-Present research project findings at appropriate regional and national professional conferences "

Basic Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
  • Ability to obtain pharmacist license within the state of residency within the licensure requirement deadline
  • Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
  • Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
  • Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
