Description

The purpose of this team is to maintain the jail facilities of Dallas County in a manner that meets the standards of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards as well as the maintenance issues raised by the Department of Justice. Acts as quality assurance/quality control lead to electricians and other personnel to provide a high level of training, technical expertise and assistance in performing skilled journey level electrical work in all phases of installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of electrical systems.

Responsibilities

1. Instructs and assists staff in the effective and high quality installation and repair of fuse boxes, switch panels, electrical controls, air conditioning, refrigeration, emergency diesel generators, computer terminals and phone cables.

2. Reviews and determines the method of installation from wiring diagrams and plans, and directs contracted electrical installations and repairs. Checks electrical installations and repairs to assure high quality work and craftsmanship are demonstrated on each project.

3. Conducts preventive maintenance inspections of equipment, completes repairs and makes recommendations for corrective action. Maintains an electronic database such as Microsoft Excel, or a facility-related software program by recording all repairs and installations, and outcomes or results.

4. Ensures adequate supplies and equipment are ordered and maintained.

5. Trains, instructs and assists electricians and other personnel in the proper methods and safety protocol and maintains time and attendance.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training:

Graduation from an accredited high school/GED Program. Two (2) years of formal training. Three (3) years of work related experience.

Special Note: One (1) year of work related experience can be substituted for one (1) year of formal training or any combination of the two.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record, and pass a security clearance check. Demonstrate effective verbal, written, leadership, and organizational skills.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Requires the ability to climb ladders and lift weights in excess of 50 lbs., assisted. Ability to withstand prolonged sitting, standing, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, stretching, lifting and climbing ladders. Must be able to work in varying conditions, surroundings and weather conditions. May be subject to changes in shift schedules and work locations.
