Description

Assists in planning, coordinating, and integrating all research and evaluation activities for the department.

Responsibilities

1. Assists in the development and implementation of juvenile justice research and policy analysis agenda, to include program processes and evaluations and cost-effectiveness analyses.

2. Assists in developing, implementing and maintaining essential data collection and reporting systems to support the research agenda; provides research data needed for department operations; and ensures accuracy of data used for research projects and reporting.

3. Assists in developing and implementing divisions' evaluations as required by federal and state grants and other funding sources.

4. Coordinates external requests for data and requests to conduct research to ensure such requests are consistent with the department's research agenda.

5. Provides technical assistance to other departmental staff engaged in outcome evaluations and quality assurance activities.

6. Coordinates with state agencies, County departments, contractors and other entities to ensure the continued operation of all databases.

7. May represent and communicate research agendas, programs and findings to the juvenile justice courts, other research communities and stakeholders.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Research, Statistics, Information Science, Mathematics, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or in a job related field of study. Two (2) years of professional work related experience in research and evaluation.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Skilled in database design and management. Proficiency in applying advanced analytical software (e.g., Stata, SAS, SPSS, etc.) preferred. Basic knowledge of social science research methods and statistical analysis and the ability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research. Familiarity with the criminal justice/juvenile justice research literature. Must pass an extensive background investigation. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
• Standard office environment within a secured facility. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., unassisted. Ability to travel to various work site locations.
• An employee may be transferred to another department, shift, location, or facility based on the needs of the Department.
• Must be at least 21 years of age (for applicable positions) and must pass all portions (physical/written) of the Juvenile Academy to continue employment or all standards related to PREA and Ethics for specific positions.
