Provides advocacy counseling, crisis intervention, referrals and case assistance in complex, high profile and/or capital homicide cases. Provides support throughout the entire criminal justice process and assists family members and witnesses in receiving compensation and better understanding of the investigation and prosecution of crimes. Responsibilities 1. Collaborates with District Court Judge, District Attorney staff, law enforcement, and other involved community partners to provide forms of outreach to family members, witnesses, and other parties of homicide victims. Serves as primary contact between parties including status of case(s) 2. Provide Crime Victims Compensation information, makes referral for crisis counseling, and other resources. Updates family members and witnesses on case/trial status; maintains contact with witnesses, agencies, and their families and may assist in obtaining location information for missing witnesses. 3. Acts as a liaison between families and service providers in responding to crisis situations by providing emotional support and assistance to victims and witnesses during court hearings and helping families prepare oral and Victim Impact statements. 4. Collaborates with the assigned prosecuting attorney in judicial proceedings with families and witnesses. 5. Serves as liaison between staff, management, other departments, law enforcement to facilitate interaction and flow of information to ensure goals, objectives and mission are communicated to staff. 6. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education, Experience and Training: Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a job related field of study. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Ability to effectively interact with the public and other staff while maintaining the confidentiality of victims who seek services. Physical/Environmental Requirements: Standard office environment. |
