Supervises the daily operations of sanitarians and animal control officers conducting environmental health inspections and investigations in Dallas County. Provides senior level expertise and training to ensure compliance with related health and safety regulations. Work is performed under the direction of the Assistant Director of Environmental Health. Management Scope: Trains and supervises exempt and non-exempt staff. Responsibilities 1. Coordinates and supervises the daily operations of sanitarians conducting inspections at food establishments, day care centers, residential treatment centers, boarding, and group and foster homes. 2. Performs annual health and safety sanitation inspections, conducts onsite investigations, and inspects septic systems. Interprets, applies, and enforces code regulations to resolve issues. 3. Supervises animal control officers to ensure field work and inspections are completed according to the policies and procedures set forth by state and local law. Works with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) by providing technical assistance regarding Animal Control and coordinating animal pickups within the Unincorporated Areas of Dallas County. 4. Interprets, applies, and enforces code regulations to resolve any issues. 5. Answers inquiries and consults with private entities and the general public regarding environmental issues and laws. 6. Completes staff performance evaluations and makes recommendations relating to recruitment, terminations, and other personnel related actions. Develops and conducts training sessions. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education, Experience and Training: Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Health Sciences, or related field of study. Two (2) years of professional work related experience, including one (1) year supervisory experience. Licensed in the State of Texas as a Registered Sanitarian. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must be a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Designated Representative within six (6) months from the date of employment. Knowledge of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Must possess a valid Texas driver's License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article II, Subdivision II of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code. Physical/Environmental Requirements: Standard office environment. Ability to lift up to 25lbs., unassisted. May require prolonged sitting or standing. Ability to travel to various work site locations. |
