Brief Description

As the first emergency (911) contact this position is responsible for the coordination and prioritization of all communication call-taking activities at the Dallas County Sheriff's Department Communication Center (911) using exceptional problem solving skills and providing excellent customer service, while providing. This position is responsible for proper resource utilization through the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system, while ensuring that standards of performance and citizen needs are met.

Detailed Description

Accurately receives and processes emergency and non-emergency telephone requests for ambulance/emergency medical/law enforcement assistance. Provides excellent customer service to the general public as well as callers from other law enforcement agencies. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures. Effectively answers routine inquiries and resolves basic customer service issues.Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school/GED program. Two (2) years job related experience or 30 hours of college or a combination of the two. Experience in a customer service environment a plus.Ability to type 30 wpm or 60 kspm, and proficient with basic computer applications and standard word processing software. Ability to multi-task and problem-solve in high-stress situations. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, organize and process work and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of other County employees and the general public. Able to learn the geography of areas served to provide accurate response time estimates to citizens and other agencies.Employees assigned to the Sheriff's Department Communications Division must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma from an accredited high school or a high school equivalency certificate (GED) administered and awarded through a Department of Education and State GED testing facility in the United States on file, and be able to obtain a Telecommunicator License issued by the State of Texas within twelve months.May require prolonged sitting, standing, walking and ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
