Description

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Chief Operating Officer for our downtown Chicago office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote). Please visit us at www.aonl.org.

Starting base salary = $225,000 - $281,000 a year (commensurate with related experience).

The Chief Operating Officer of AONL is responsible for the executive management of all AONL business operations in accordance with the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the AHA and AONL. Leads and oversees development and execution of organizational strategic plan and priorities. Responsible for fiscal performance of operating unit and individual business initiatives. Accountable for financial performance that meets revenue, expense, and margin targets. Represents AONL to external and internal constituents to develop collaborative opportunities and position AONL as the voice of nursing leadership. Demonstrates ability to balance strategic thinking and operational execution skills. This role serves as a transformational leader to advance the work of AONL:

Provides senior leadership for AONL and its respective operating units (operations, membership, marketing, internal and external communications, media relations, publications, education, special projects, and quality). Leads, manages, and oversees all related business activities to achieve the overall strategic and financial goals of AONL.

Develops strategic and operational priorities in collaboration with the AONL board of directors and chief executive officer that support the organizational strategic plan. Leads the development of the AONL strategic plan, annual operating plan, and manages and oversees associated metrics.

Develops and manages the annual operating budget, overseeing revenue in excess of $10 million and reserves in excess of $12.0 million. Accountable for overall AONL performance relative to financial and business development goals.

Leads, inspires, develops, and motivates the AONL staff in all areas of business activity, growth, and development. Responsible for FTE management and oversight of team compensation.

Represents AONL (a) outside AONL for the purpose of advancing the strategic, business goals of the AHA and AONL, including key external partnerships; and (b) within the AHA as a member of the Core Management senior leadership team. Serves as an active participant and leader on cross-association initiatives, aimed at achieving the strategic priorities of AHA.

Serves on numerous cross-association workgroups aimed at improving organizational effectiveness and impactful in the health care and nursing leadership fields.
