Brief Description Coordinates, supervises and participates in the inspection of buildings to ensure the effective delivery of services in compliance with program regulations and County policies and guidelines. Management Scope: Supervises generally eight (8) Building Inspectors. Detailed Description Supervises Building Inspectors by analyzing, distributing and monitoring the workflow in coordination with departmental staff, agencies, property owners and contractors to ensure effective delivery of service. Receives and investigates complaints regarding code violations and zoning ordinances, diagnoses problems and resolve disputes.Makes on-site visits to inspections in progress; trains staff on effective inspection techniques; and conducts final inspections to ensure acceptable standards. Reviews staff paperwork for completeness and accuracy; maintains reports and provides accurate accountability of inspection activities. Evaluates the performance of staff to determine productivity, effectiveness and staff developmental training needs. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Arts, Business, Construction, or job related field of study. Four (4) years of work related experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience. Knowledge of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Knowledgeable of applicable local, state and federal codes, ordinances and regulations relating to electrical, plumbing and gas installations in residential buildings. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with good driving record. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment.Ability to travel to various work site locations. Ability to withstand prolonged sitting, standing, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, stretching, lifting and climbing ladders. Must be able to work in varying conditions, surroundings and weather conditions.
