Brief Description

Assists litigation team/attorneys with research, depositions, trial preparation, discovery, drafting of documents for submission to court, and other administration functions for civil litigation team.

Detailed Description

Drafts pleadings, motions, orders, writ of summons, and case information statements to file with court and serve upon opposing parties.Drafts interrogatories, requests for admissions, requests for production of documents, and requests for examination or inspection.Assists with the preparation of briefs to court; reviews cite history, and proofs briefs for spelling, syntax, consistency, and textual integrity.Maintains repository and or database for current court rulings.Collects, organizes, and maintains form files, including model pleadings, motions, and checklists.Maintains litigation docket, calendar, or tickler system, noting deadlines for responsive pleadings and motions, court appearances, and other important deadlines.Obtains, reviews, organizes and analyzes preliminary documentation and information supporting County claims.Meets with witnesses, coordinates the collection and review of witness files; gathers, organizes, summarizes, and analyzes factual data collected.Obtains written reports/analysis of physical evidence, injuries, issues, and financial evaluations from experts.Drafts outline for questions for examining of witnesses at depositions; reviews and assembles documents to be used in deposition.Assists with and coordinate discovery process to ensure that all relevant information requested be provided to opposing party and that Dallas County has the information it requested.Assists attorney at trial preparation by maintaining a list of exhibits as identified, offered into evidence, and noting developments of cases.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education, Experience and Training:Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a job related field of study. Two (2) years additional job related experience.Special Requirements:Certified Paralegal preferred. Knowledge of on-line legal research services.
